Since tonight’s episode was not an episode at all, I will make some brief comments, and then I want to hear yours.
It’s The Men Tell All and before we actually see any of the men live, we get some pre-taped interviews with Jillian. Some of the funnier things of note:
-Ed actually has a ton of personality when he’s drunk; They showed some footage of him in Vancouver being an inebriated fool, and actually – I think it worked in his advantage. Jillian was cracking up (although she was annoyed that he lifted her up in a short dress).
-Robby’s good-bye on the train was actually an hour and a half because the train missed its stop and had to go backwards to leave him at the right place. As you may recall, poor Robby was not only dumped by Jillian after some one on one time, he was left on the side of the train tracks – in what looked like the wilderness.
-Reid can NOT hula dance at all, and watching the footage of him trying to do so, was really funny. No wonder ABC cut it ๐
-Jillian digs Tanner’s foot fetish. Wow, takes quite a woman to be so cool about it.
-The Kipper is a do-gooder, and volunteers with teenage children. He took Jills to where he volunteers during his hometown visit. Definitely brownie points here.
-Jill finally admits that Wes came on the show to promote his music, not for her. Next week, she will probably announce that Montreal is in Canada and that water cures thirst.
-Molly and Jason are still together and she returns with longer, darker hair and some sort of zit
on her chin. Maybe this what love does for you. They have been together now for 6 months. Molly and Tye are buddies now. Both say they love each other and that they would get married, but the next step is for Molly to move to Seattle. Jason uses this opportunity to plug his website, http://www.jasonsplace.com/ He also uses this opportunity to say that if what he ultimately did (aka, screwing over Melissa to go back to his second choice, Molly) caused Melissa’s current happiness and Jillian’s current happiness, then he’s happy he did it. Wow, Jason is really a hero – did you know that?
-David has a beard and looks dirtier than ever. Noticeably absent from The Men Tell All: Wes, Reid (not able to make it due to “prior engagement…”) Hmmmm – is that a play on words? Is it because he’s ENGAGED?? Interesting choice of words, Chris.
-The other guys bash Jake’s “perfect-ness.” One guy said he wouldn’t step on an ant.
-Robby is labeled as the group drunk.
-Wes is the most hated. The guys say he’s there for his music. He has a girlfriend. “A country-singing turd,” is one of the better things said about Wes.
-They said that Jake “pulled a Mesnick” – meaning a grown man leans over a railing and cries. Mark names 3 things that bother him about Jake (which were definitely things he prepared and said into a mirror at least 100 times before saying them on TV). Sasha tells him he’s a phony. Poor Jake. They’re a little too rough on him. Mike Stag is the only one that sticks up for him. He (Mike Stag) is so freakin’ adorable. His momma would be proud of him.
-Dave has a lot to say about man code. Man code is an unspoken set of rules that you don’t have to talk about. You don’t sleep with your friend’s girl. He does admit, however, that being on The Bachelorette is a violation of a man code. The guys didn’t like that Juan faked a shot and pretended that his throat burned. This greatly offends Dave and Robby. Tanner P looks like he spent a lot of time in a tanning bed before coming on the show. Maybe he calls it the Tanner Bed. His forehead, cheeks and throat are orange and the rest of his face is pale.
-Dave gets the hot seat first of the guys and it’s clear he made a great initial impression on Jillian. The more she gets to know him, however, the more uncomfortable he makes Jillian. His whole speech about her ass, was the end of it all. Dave can not believe that he made Jillian feel very uncomfortable. He then polls the audience in asking them if they would like it if a guy compliments their asses. A real crowd pleaser, that guy.
-Jake is next in the hot seat. He admits he was falling in love with Jillian. Jake also admits to never thinking about “man code” before telling Jillian that Wes had a girlfriend. He says he would do it again. The female audience members applaud this. The guys bash Jake’s decision. Dave says that Jake “cried like a little girl…” while Robby defends Jake’s actions.
One audience member asks Jake if he’d be willing to be the next Bachelor and the audience goes wild (hmmm, some early promotion on ABC’s part? That would be pretty smart). Not sure that Jake has enough of an edge to make the show interesting enough. How would he ever reject anybody? Would he cry in between rose ceremonies? Not that there’s anything wrong with male crying – I just don’t know if he could stomach some of the rejection that’s a natural part of the show. Jake’s response to whether he’d be the next Bachelor – is that he’s still very much “in this season” and it’s a decision he’d have to make at the time. (My guess is he’d think about it for about .001 seconds before accepting).
Is anybody else watching the commercials? Why are there so many depression commercials? Are people who watch The Bachelorette a natural target for depression? Am I depressed?
I’m trying to get this blog post done before my friend Erika (who is visiting from Chicago) arrives at our apartment. I already warned her that I can’t speak to her until after the show is over (how great of a hostess am I?). The Fiance is at the Yankees game, so I am flying solo tonight.
OK, back to the show. So Wes doesn’t show, but that doesn’t stop Chris from examining Wes and Jillian’s relationship. After the brief recap of their relationship, the audience boos. It’s like Jerry Springer on set. Apparently, Wes wrote his country songs for his girlfriend back home. Some of the guys think that Wes has genuine feels for Jillian, others disagree. Chris asks if there were any Wes supporters in the audience, and he couldn’t find one person to speak. ABC did put together a music video featuring Wes – part music, part him admitting that he wants fame. No wonder he didn’t show up tonight. Again, more booing from the audience over this video.
-Jillian comes out finally and confronts Dave about feeling uncomfortable by him. Dave apologizes. She specifically feels bad she let Mike Steinberg go so early and Mike Stagliano (Love the Mikes!)
– Jillian basically tells Jake that she didn’t want to string him along. Ouch. Guess she wasn’t interested.
-As for Wes, Jillian does believe she got played by him. Mike Stag has the nicest speech out of all of the guys. He basically tells Jillian that he is OK, and he’s learned a lot about love and the kind of woman he wants to marry.
-Funny outtakes: “These guys keep getting hotter and harder…” says Jillian.
-The gas of the guys (Ed and Mike Stag); Jillian’s fake orgasm from pepperoni.
Chris asks Jillian if she’s happy. Her response: “I’m extremely happy.” Thanks for that revealing answer. Is this going to be one of those “I chose myself” endings? Or will she pick Kiptyn (and his mother) or go for Ed? Who knows? Will Reid return and steal the show? What do you think?

This was the best television show I have ever watched, even though I lost the last 20 minutes, when Jillian was to appear.
To be able to take two hours out of each week, and watch this story play out is wonderful.
Pure escapism.
Jillian is terrific, and Reid is the one.

I thought some of the guys were kind of mean spirited – especially towards Jake and Juan. My favorite moment was when Jesse demanded Juan explain why he only drank half of the shot and Chris interjects "Who gives a crap?". Too funny!
I agree it was kind of awkward when Jillian told Jake she didn't want to string him along. He needs to get over her fast.
Kudos to Michael the breakdancer for standing up to the frat boys on Jake's behalf.
Finally, I'm so pleased to see Reid in the preview for next week! Was that like a promise ring he had for her? I have a bad feeling that she lets him loose and Ed is her final choice.

Stacey & The Fiance: Werewulf look you didn't care for on Mike is gone, and several others have adopted it, still crude/Man-Code Dave and Jessie. The ladies love "aw shucks" Jake and the phony "haven't thought that far" about being the next Bachelor – .001 seconds is too high. He wants it!
I, too, love the Mikes (Steinberg the best), 2 nicest guys there tonight and on the show. Dave's demeanor when first meeting Jillian out of the limo was so fake; he doesn't have a bashful bone in his body. First impression rose because of that?? Outtakes were funny; Ed is a riot when tipsy.
Hope your Yankees win for you; the Brewers are having a losing streak. Jason and Molly have been introduced out on the field at Miller Park, just like the celebrities they are!

Nice play on words by Chris (who BTW was hilarious tonight!) by saying Reid had a "prior engagement" which kept him from being there. Haha. I've read far too many rumors keeping my hopes up about Reid coming back… so of course I loved actually seeing Reid in the preview for the finale as opposed to shadowy figures. But I couldn't help feeling like it was all a ruse. As much as I would love him to come back and actually tell Jillian that he loves her, I definitely don't want to see him get hurt.

I found most of these men were somewhat led by David. He puts himself as the king of these guys and he's the guy who uttered the phrase "man code" all season long, and most of these men found it to be fool not to be signing themselves in David's Frat Club and his stupid man code thing, first of all, would somebody define that specifically. For instance, If a guy finds out that a woman he has feelings for being played like fool by another guy, You'd just let it all slide by and wait for that guy to come out on his own terms? Sounds like to me, man code is all about protecting their guy friends. What about respecting and protecting women for the sake of them being women? That's ironic.
At the end of the spectrum, this David and his followers made so much of a huge deal about Juan only drank half of the shot and called him out violating man-code for doing that? What a bullcrap! Jake did not deserve to be treated like the way he did tonight, he was there all season for the girls, instead of most of these men, who I bet, found a lot more fun hanging out by themselves sharing their experiences on their girls past, in the bunkhouse, drinking alcohol non-stop and playing pool instead of winning the heart of the girl..

Jake was there all season for the girl* not girls.. hehe

Trying to post for the 3rd time… I wish this site would let you copy and paste your comments, because if the submit doesn't work the first time, you lose it all. *sigh*
Comments probably getting shorter since I had to type them three times now… ๐
– Jake was an early favourite but I didn't like him after he came back. I think his heart was in the right place, I just felt it was all very canned, and his comments in this episode felt very scripted or rehearsed to me. I don't know, there's something about him… I just don't think I'd like him as the bachelor, and I never liked that he was "in love" with Jillian so fast. The guys were a bit hard on him but one of them had a good point… he was ready to make all of Jillian's dreams come true before he even met her, which makes me think he didn't care what woman he ended up with, as long as he ended up with someone.
– Wes probably got hit pretty hard with the editing in this series, but I have no sympathy because he gave them all the ammunition that they needed to work with. Maybe he wasn't as bad as he came out in the edit, but there has to be a spark before you can have a flame…
– Dave is clueless.
– Love the Mikes as well, especially breakdancer Mike. What a sweetheart. You had him saying how he was still recovering from Jill, and Jake saying the same thing, and to be honest, I believed it way more from Mike than Jake.
– Wish ABC would stop ruining next week's surprises with their previews. Oh look, Reid's back, I guess next week's "shocker" won't be such a shocker since you told us already. They did the same thing with Jake. Less preview, more show! Pretty soon it'll be like Entertainment Tonight where they spend 60-70% of the show telling you what's coming, and then have no time to give you any real details.
– Nice to see Jill's folks next week.
– I know it wasn't on the show this week, but I meant to say it last week… is anyone else creeped out by how Kiptyn kisses Jillian? It looks like he's trying to eat her face or swallow her lip. Kind of comical and gross at the same time. ๐
Looking forward to next week!

D'oh, forgot to add to my post above…
– Chris is an awesome host, I always want to see more of him. He's second only to the legendary Phil Keoghan, and that's high praise indeed. ๐
kwt says
Another one I forgot to add (this is what happens when my post doesn't go through on the first try… I forget everything. ๐
– Getting tired of Molly and Jason, and I'm also tired of them being vilified and Melissa being portrayed as the victim. I don't think Jason's any great hero, but I do agree with him to a point… I don't know why it keeps getting harped on when everything worked out for everyone in the end. Melissa I don't think is or has ever been a real victim in this whole thing. So not more Molly, Melissa and Jason. Stick a fork in it… it's done!

Am I the only one who was waiting for Jesse to be interviewed about what went wrong with Jillian and himself? THat was not that far back that he was let go…..He would be a great next bach…..guess I am the only one

I LOVE JESSE TOO!!! He'd be way better than Jake as a Bachelor. I don't hate Jake, but he's way too boring for me, IMO. I think he did "man up" and tell Jill the truth and I respect him for being the one to do it, but I can totally see why Jill wasn't into him in that way.
I was happy to see Jason and Molly. Good for them.
I hope she ends up with Reid or Ed. Kip is a great guy but I don't think he's the best suited for her out of who is left. They've had great chemistry but I think Ed or Reid have more of the whole package for her. Who knows… next week should be VERY interesting……
Tracy says
On Ed: If your personality only shines when you're drunk, that's not a good sign. The first couple times it's a riot, but it gets old fast.
I loved Dave's incoherent "explanation" of man-code. If Juan had spoken up about not wanting to drink, the guys would have ragged him on it–who do they think they're kidding? Drunks don't like sober people, so Juan was trying to lay low, for all the good it did him.
Interesting that Mike S. is one of the youngest, but clearly more mature than some of them.
hillary says
Mike Staglione is a doll – he's real and natural, is gorgeous and needs some mature girls his age. I would like to see him as the next Bachelor, but he is young. Jesse – I could never read him – think he was more like SCARY DAVE than he let on. Dave is just not worth the time it takes to talk about him. He is a neanderthal and would be good if anyone is looking for a one night stand, but I think most of the audience weren't. (: I just don't think Jillian was attracted to Jake…he looked gorgeous in the beginning, but his looks began to fade…not my type – but there is a girl out there for him. I think the show would be boring with him as the bachelor, but very romantic. My votes are for the two Mikes. Tanner did that footfetish stuff to stand out and what's wrong with it….if he was perfect in every other way – what's wrong with that – I think its cute. Juan is a nice guy who is not a rough and tough macho man and doesn't like to drink. What's wrong with that? They talk about women being catty – these men, led by Dave, were relentless. Ed, drunk, is ADORABLE.. I liked him before only I like him better now. He was really a cute drunk…its too bad we don't see those things that never get on the original show – Kiptyn seems like a really great guy (but his mother!) At this point, I would feel bad for anybody that didn't get Jillian. I love the fact that she is so comfortable in her own skin. She was so cute last night and I really do not think if it was off camera, she would've minded Dave saying that bout her ass, but he came off so creepy. It wasn't editing, because last nite, he was the same – a definite looker who I wouldn't want to meet in a dark alley. The whole thing with Wes is – whatever – who cares – Jillian was living out her fantasy of marrying a country star – with me it was a rock star, so I can relate. Jason and Molly – GO AWAY FOREVER. What was with the zit – couldn't makeup cover it. Jillian is much prettier, nicer and better than Molly, but of course Jillian was too good for Jason. I like Reid and I think they're perfect, but I think ABC is teasing us, unfortunately. Maybe Jillian will become a polygamist woman and move to Utah – those 3 husbands would be a pretty tempting thought! I am going to be hurt for whomever Jillian doesn't pick, including Reid, because she really chose the right 3. Jillian, I'm 26 years older than you, but I want to be you when I grow up (: Yes, the depression commercials were rampant (I usually DVR, but didn't this time) and I guess a show for mostly women is associated with it. I think ABC has really did a hatchetjob – Kiptyn was not seen as the caring person he really is, don't know really what is up with Wes, Dave was front and center and we were made to have an opinion on him immediately and when Jake and Reid do their combacks, they're just trying to get ratings. Maybe they could do a Big Brother feed (hate that show, but it would work here, for me anyway)

I wouldn't be surprised if Dave had a shot before he went on the show.

I like when Jake gave f-you right back to Sascha – besides I don't even remember him!

I can't believe no one has commented on Mark – I think he was a total asshole last night! Really ragging on Juan and Jake. I think they both got hit too hard last night. I don't care for Jake at all – would hate to see him as the next bachelor.
I like Mike Stagliano…poor guy. He will find a great girl!
Sasha was an ass, too. I wanted someone to comment how he got rejected on his one on one date!
Love Chris H.

Last nights show was amusing, but they are such frat boys. I actually respect Wes for not showing up, as he would only be ripped apart and editted poorly. Please do not make Jake the next bachelor…maybe Michael the dancer or Reid!!??

Jake is just a perfect gentleman, he will truly find his true love someday…i dont think he would be boring as the next bachelor…i wish she would somehow choose reid..do not care for ed at all, i mean why should he be allowed to leave the show and then just come back ..just something not right about that…

I agree that the two Mikes are just so sincere and lovable! It's true that Mark and Sasha both came across as jerks. Boo!
And that beard on Dave – oh man, it just makes him look scarier. Yikes! I didn't like all the attention he received and support from so many guys.
The more I see Jake the less I like him. Seems more phony, canned, etc. The Mikes are the true stars.
Wes, I'm just kinda done with him. Not investing any more energy there. Totally UNsurprising that he wrote that stupid song for another girl.
Do wish we could've heard Jesse's take on the break up. He was looking all snazzy. Odd, though, to sense more of an affinity with Dave than the show revealed. Not a good sign…
I was excited to see Reid, although I might have preferred a surprise next Monday. I'm a little worried for him, though. Is the ONLY reason Jill let him go bc he couldn't express his feelings? What if there was more to it? And yeah, that ring is not your typical diamond. Probably a promise ring. I feel bad for Kip already, so earnestly holding that diamond. It just doesn't seem like she's gonna accept it.
I'm really torn. I think all 3 are good guys and would treat her well. I just hope ABC gives us an edit that makes us feel good about the winner.
Christina says
Btw, I also thought the guys were unduly hard on Juan. I admire that he took only half a shot and wanted to keep his mind clear. Good for him!
It's pretty sad that so many guys objected to him so strongly just bc he's different from him. Grow up!

Hi Stacey — thank you for taking the time to recap and thanks to your friend for her patience.
Just a couple of things – I was sort of interested in how they avoided the whole Kiptyn's fav charity during the season and profiled it now — thinking maybe they were hiding a very important clue from us earlier. I know volunteering is supposed to be huge for Jillian and I know when I found out the extent of my hubby's big heart it was the start of me falling completely and utterly in love with him – that and many other great qualities but big hearts appreciate other big hearts. – Just saying.
Also if you and The Fiance have a few extra minutes and want a giggle – go to YouTube and search for the Molson Canadian ads titled "The Code" Dave should have watched them before spouting off about Man Code – these four commercials are a hoot – and poke fun at the Man Code.
How is the search for a destination going – I listened to your list and wish you luck. I'm thinking Disneyworld has all you want and need and seems to be a fun destination wedding site.
Enjoy

After seeing the MTA, I can imagine David being a bully jock in high school, and he has his followers following him everywhere he goes, including Sasha, Jesse, Bryan, Tanner, Mark and they six all bully Juan and Jake together. These six were the ones who were being an absolute ass last night.
Why did they blast Jake and Juan that much!? They had no reason for it, and Jesse? I was so appalled by him, I was a fun but after last night's attitude, he acted as if he's David's right hand man, and I would want to hear his reaction of David's attitude towards Jillian, because IF Jesse had the guts to blast Juan and Jake like that, Jesse needed to blast David ten times more harsh than what he did to Juan and Jake. Chris should've asked Jesse that. He disappointed me so much last night.

What do people think about Reid's appearance in the finale and Chris' choice of words? Don't want to get my hopes up, but wondering what everyone else thinks…
Anonymous says
They shouldn't show Reid in the previews, then it makes us think they have a chance (though I do want her with Reid). How many times has this show teased us with the previews and then it doesn't happen? They're better off leaving Reid completely out of it, and then we'd be so surprised when he comes back. I hope she picks Reid, or I'll be happy with Ed, too. There's something about Kipton that doesn't sit well with me. He doesn't seem that into her.
Anonymous says
I must be missing something because I don't understand why so many people want(ed) to see Reid and Jillian together in the end. What is it about him that people like so much or rather, what is so different (better?) about the chemistry she had with him versus with Ed or Kiptyn? Yes, Jillian and Reid seemed to laugh a lot together, but their relationship didn't seem to have much depth (maybe because Reid couldn't open-up to her?). I think Ed is a much better fit for her than Reid.

Jillian was just on Jimmy Kimmel (12:15C). She looked fantastic and was bubbly and sounded great and happy. She declined Uncle Frank's check for $6,000,000 to reveal who she picked.
Hillary says
It did really bother me that they didn't show Kiptyn on the broadcast as the caring volunteer he is. They leave things out and then we wonder why they don't choose certain guys. When they're talking about the guys too……why does she feel so close to that person? There are many things off camera and not broadcast that goes toward her decision.
Yes, I would've liked to hear Jesse's side.
I wish that they hadn't shown Reid in the preview – that means probably that he will just show up, upset Jillian and then leave.
I like any of those 3 guys, but after the volunteer segment on Men Tell ALL, I have a different opinion of Kiptyn (if he could get rid of that mother!)
Anonymous says
Pretty much agree with Christina's take on the guys, particularly Jake. There's something "rotten in Denmark" about him. His personality is certainly "stale". The pasted-on grin is tiresome and annoying.

I loved Jake & would love to see him come back as the next Bach. I guess there's just something about him that you either love or don't.
