If you can’t possibly wait another second until Jillian Harris’s season starts on The Bachelorette (May 18th), then you might want to check this out: The creators of the Bachelor have come up with another ridiculous reality tv dating show to kill more of our brain cells. It’s called The Cougar. Premiering on April 15th (this Wednesday) on TV Land at 10 PM/9 PM Central, The Cougar stars a 40 year old realtor named Stacey as she meets and sorts her way through 20 younger men in the hopes of finding love. Stacey is currently a mother of 4 (will we get to meet her youngins?). http://www.tvland.com/prime/shows/cougar/season1/stacey_the_cougar.jhtml
I’ve seen some previews for this show, and it promises to be completely trashy (which means I will definitely watch it at some point). The host is Vivica A. Fox, who looks nothing like Chris Harrison, but hopefully won’t interrupt any rose ceremonies with comments like, “Stacey, Guys, this is the final rose.”
What doesn’t make sense to me is the following: Why does Stacey look like she’s 25? And if she does look like she’s 25 and acts like she is 21, then how is she really a “Cougar?” I mean even Samatha in Sex and the City was 50 in the movie, but she at least looked a little bit older. The guys selected for this show claim they have an obsession with older women. That’s nice, but what business do they have being a step dad to four kids? I’m already annoyed with the show and it hasn’t started. Are you?

I think I’ll record the first episode but if it’s not great I’m not going to waste my time. Very few of these dating shows end up being as good as the Bachelor.

I guess I should be glad we don’t get TV Land. Apparently I fell into the Cougar category when I met my husband — I was 48 he was 42. If he had been 43 it would have been ok — go figure. I will admit when I first met him online I told him no thanks he missed my target age — I thought 5 years younger was enough. He said its just a year and here I am having enjoyed 6 months of wedded bliss with this fabulous man. I just posted about that today on my own blog.
