Not Minding Nemo

Central Park in the snow (old photo)

I hope you’re all bracing yourself for this impending blizzard, all you Northeasters.  For those outside the Northeast region – I hope you’re soaking up the sun, going for a walk on a beach or just generally doing something fun other than being shut in.  It wasn’t too bad out at 6:30 AM when I took Wally out for a walk.  But about five minutes after we got back, it looked like a snow globe outside.  My commuter train had already indicated that it was altering its schedule and I worried whether I’d get stuck out in the ‘burbs if the trains shut down for some reason.  The thought of saving a 3 hour commute was too amazing to resist.  So by 7:15 AM, I was at the gym, something I haven’t done in years on a weekday.  By the time I would have arrived at my work desk, I had run 3 miles, showered, eaten breakfast and was ready to go.  Snow day, every day?

While stretching post run on a mat, this very long skinny dude came up next to me and started showing off.  He did that exercise where he stretches his arms up to the ceiling and makes himself very long.  After the stretch, he suddenly crouches down to the floor like a frog, followed by a quick extension of his legs out behind him, then back to crouch, then it ends with him shooting his arms back up to the ceiling again.  Only this time when he extended, he clapped his hands and it made this annoying, echoing sound that really pissed me off.  It screamed, “Look at me. I’m fit. I’m being active.”  Uchhh, he’s mocking my simple stretching.  He repeated this annoying display of manliness about 30 times.  I wanted to stop what I was doing and just applaud him.  Because really, that’s what he wanted.  Oh well, good for him, I guess.

Anyhow, I’m on baby watch right now as a very close friend of mine from law school, Alana, who lives a couple blocks away in NYC, is due with baby number 2 at any moment.  Poor thing has been on bed rest for a couple month’s already and she’s scheduled to give birth at the hospital a block from my apartment in the next week or so (though it could be any day now, really).  The Husband and I are on double back up duty in case she has to get to the hospital today or tonight in the midst of this blizzard and needs help with her daughter.  Meanwhile, Scottish Work Friend is also very prego – due in a couple of weeks, but also could go at any moment.  Scottish Work Friend needs to wait a couple days to have that baby, so I can be there (at almost the moment it happens  - I’m very involved here!).  Alana – I’m ready for.

In other news, Michael Stagliano is engaged.  Remember on the finale of Bachelor Pad 3, when he revealed to blonde Rachel with bangs that he really wasn’t interested in her even though he led her on and had someone in Chicago he was in love with?  Michael and his new fiance, Emily something, met while he was on tour for his music.  I wonder if she was a Bachelor groupie or something, but in any event, he posted pics of the two of them all over Twitter and there’s a blurb about the engagement in Us Weekly.  Good for him.

An US Magazine article came out today that Ben Flajnik is using the online dating application  ”Tinder.” Wow – you’d think if he wasn’t able to meet someone with all the exposure he got from being the Bachelor, there’s not much hope for the general population.  Couldn’t he just go back to Emily O’Brien or Kacie B?  Nah, they have hopefully moved on to bigger and better things.

Alright, time to go off to work here – which really means, I have to clear off a spot on our living room table and log in.  In the meantime, I’ll leave you with this adorable video of Sean Lowe and Lesley which Barb was kind enough to post a link to (or you can see it below): http://thebachelor.warnerbros.com/video/deleted-scene-lesleys-picnic/

Good luck with your big snow. We are just getting the tail end or edge or something here in the DC metro area…that’s all we have had this year: “dustings” and rain. It is still dreary and cold – just no pretty white snow. We spent much of last week in Houston for our daughter’s wedding and it was SO gorgeous! Did not want to come home.

The stretching exercise you described is called a “burpee.” They are generally done by people who want to torture themselves. I can do about 5 before I want to die.

    Stacey,

Hope you have enough food (for Wally, too), candles and warm blankets. Looks like this is pretty serious weather.
