Highs & “Lowe’s” of The Bachelor, Initial Thoughts on Episode 2

I’m so annoyed because the DVR did not record the first 20 minutes of tonight’s show.  Horrified and screaming, I managed to get the show on in time to see the very end of Sarah’s date.  I LOVE Sarah and apparently so does everyone because “Sarah and Sean” was trending on Twitter.  What did I miss??? Luckily, Sean Lowe’s abs (who still have their own Twitter feed – @SeanLowesAbz) summarized their date by saying they went down a building together.  Ahhh – the adrenaline date.  Hormones are flying all over the place, feelings are intensified and the girl is left wondering how on earth she can possibly recapture that feeling while watching her new boyfriend goes on dates with 20 something other women.  The first date girl can rarely keep it together and 99.9% of the time, end up crashing and burning.  For Sarah’s sake, I hope she’s the exception, but I’m not sure it will happen – she’s already admitting that she’s falling in love.  YIKES.

Some of tonight’s noteworthy discoveries:

  • Sean loves ethnic women!  I really liked that Robyn went right up and asked him what his deal was in that regard.  She’s a brave woman and he gave a PERFECT answer.  His last girlfriend was an African American woman!  This opens a whole new set of women who may go far and I’m looking forward to seeing it.
  • I am absolutely terrified of Kristy the model that “won” the Harlequin book cover competition on the group date.  I’m fairly certain that she may double as an assassin / karate instructor with the amount of energy she has and any time she smiles, I am afraid her teeth are going to catch something in them.  She needs to take it down about 10 notches.
  • I loved when Sean said that Sarah gave him butterflies and he wanted to kiss her.  That’s basically the only part of their date I saw.  I HATED the group date because it was only set up to piss off the people who weren’t kissing Sean or jumping up and down like hyenas in excitement such as Kristy.
  • Amanda with the yellow dress with rose shoulders, gigantic toothed smile and anti-social behavior is almost as scary as Kristy.  I get that hanging out with a bunch of your boyfriend’s girlfriends may not be the most thrilling time of your life, but you’re on TV, at least pretend to be social.  The flip that got switched when Sean entered the room was mind blowing.  It’s like someone blew some life into her.  Completely mind boggling and even more so that Sean bought it.
  • Tierra is losing it right before our eyes.  If we had a barometer at the bottom of the screen, it would have sharply risen tonight.  As much as the other girls are annoyed by her, I still don’t see her craziness just yet. I bought her speech to Sean that she’s “out of her comfort zone” and it was making her act strange.  Very understandable.  After all, it’s not normal to be dating a guy and have a bunch of other women after him at the same time.  I’ll give her a pass this week.  But next week looks completely insane.  I did love, however, Tierra’s complete repulsion by Kristy’s hair extensions.  As if she had never seen anything as hideous in her whole life.
  • I still love Lesley the Political Consultant (who’s really an Admin).  Particularly when she felt her chance was blown to get a kiss from Sean and she went right back to go get him.  It’s going to take some ambition to make it in this competition.  She also happens to have an amazing body and is very pretty.
  • I am terrified of Katie’s hair.  The Husband thought she might be part sheep.  You’d think Kacie B could have at least given her some tips based on last season, but that was not to be.  I’m convinced Katie left the house, not because she wasn’t comfortable with the process, but rather, because she forgot her deep conditioning moisturizer and anti-frizz hair products.  I’d be out of my comfort zone too.
  • Speaking of Kacie B, while I loved her last season, she’s seeming a lot more desperate this season.  Ok, maybe desperate is a bit strong, but I hate seeing Kacie B trying to convince yet another man that she’s worth keeping around for another week to get a rose.  It bothered me, particularly when pretending to be concerned and serious at Katie going home, when really she was happy.  Kacie B – you’re better than that.  I’m glad she’s happy that she’s out of the “friend zone,” but not sure she can surpass the chemistry he’s already developing with some of the other girls.
  • The Desiree date was pretty ridiculous but I love that he calls her “Des” already.  I love the idea that they are testing these ladies’ senses of humor – but what else was Des going to do but be nice?  I wonder what Tierra would have done.  They do seem very comfortable around each other and Des is certainly a front runner at this point.  When they started talking about their parents’ relationships and what they want with their lives, it sounded like something clicked for both of them. The Husband laughed when she came out of Sean’s house wearing the lavender bikini.  I told him that all these girls carry a bikini with them at all times. It’s mandatory operating procedure for being on the show.
  • We saw Sean’s abs so many times tonight, that I stopped counting.  The guy loves being shirtless.
  • I’m glad Lindsay redeemed herself a bit tonight after that stupid wedding dress arrival.  They had a nice conversation
  • I am glad Sean sent home Diana (mother of 2 from Utah) if he wasn’t feeling it.  He’s a nice guy (minus the dumb pranks he likes to play).

Alright, so that’s all for now – if there were any amazing parts of Sarah’s date, please tell!  I love her!

they jumped off a building in a harness. afterwards they talked. One of the things they talked about was how she was on vaction with her Dad at one point and he asked her what she wanted to do and she said zip lining. They went through all the pre stuff and she was in the harness. Then an employee told her it was against the state law for someone with a disability to zipline and she was very embarressed. So doing the jump with Sean meant a lot. She seems great

    • Stacey B says:

Wait, so she did the zip lining off the building illegally? Didn’t they research this in advance? I really like Sarah too. Thanks for the recap, Keri!

      • Erika says:

It was another time with her dad that she was about to go zip lining, but was stopped.
What happened tonight was “free falling” off a building, and she was happy that Sean thought enough of her to take her on this date.
Sarah did seem terrified, as anyone would be to jump off this building.
They reached the top of the bldg by helicopter, which picked them up from the house the girls are staying in.
Sarah went on to say, that her father told her, that she should be with a person, that could see her inner beauty, and her inner strength, and Sean turns out to be that guy…at least for this first date.

Yes – and she screamed the whole way down. Probably passing out wasn’t an option – or she could have done that. i would have!

Another topic: dresses at the cocktail party. That was my favorite part last night. The yellow rose dress and necklace (from a dollar store? or really trendy – couldn’t tell, but awful anyway) was the lowlight, but i LOVED Catherine’s one shouldered turquoise and black graphic print. Really wonderful and different. There were lots of “meh” dresses, but those two stood out in totally different ways. Overall, it was a pretty boring show and I was glad to watch it on the DVR and fast forward through a bunch of the sniping.

Agree with you about Kacie – loved her last time around. This time, not so much.

  3. Teresa says:

I am also very disappointed with Kacie B this season. She seemed so genuine and sincere on Ben’s season, where now she is coming across as caddy and a bit of a “know-it-all.” She is acting like a Bachelor expert where really I feel sorry for her. She went crawling back to Ben and he rejected her..now she is trying convince another man to keep her around. Her interactions with the girls are bitchy..Katie went to her because she needed someone to confide in, the poor girl was so lost..Kacie B was so phoney with her it was a huge turn off. I would not be too disappointed if she didn’t last much longer.

As for Sean’s little prank on Desiree…obviously the girl knows there are cameras on her at ALL TIMES! She reacted politely but definitely did not show a great sense of humor…it would have been hilarious if she pulled a prank on Sean later in the evening..that would have shown a great sense of humor. I do like her, though, she seems very sweet and I think Sean really enjoyed their conversation.

I don’t have any favorites yet..I just know I cannot stand girls. any girls, who are downright caddy and bitchy…I understand this process is difficult, 25 women dating the same man and doing it all on camera..but can you at least try to get along with the other women?? No one says you have to be best friends but can you at least be civil? I hate girls who just like to put other girls down.

  4. Wahoo! And we have lift off! This season is just getting started and I’m loving every minute of it (yes I need to get a life but don’t we all!) So first off let me say a big THANK YOU to Stacey and fellow bach fans for validating my comments last week re: Kacie B…I believe I said something like her behavior “looks and smells of desperation which is attractive to no-one” including Sean. To be fair, he’s giving her a chance because he’s a nice guy. But let’s face it, he and Kacie have already interacted outside of the show on more than one occasion, had he felt it for her…the rest would be history at this point. I’m still suspect of her motivations anyway…does she have any pending hollywood contracts? I mean you have to question someone who would go through this process again….

So I don’t know about the rest of you but the group dates are a serious recipe for drama rama (love it) and can they not think of anything new???How many photo shoots, soap opera scenes, etc have they come up with on these things??? There is so much to do in Southern Cali and beyond, c’mon producers, surprise us for once! And how about Sean saying to Tierra “you don’t have a catty side right?” Seriously do men not know that 99.9 percent of women can be provoked into catty and bitchy given the right set of circumstances…. uhm….such as all competing for one hot guy while engaged in a seductive photo shoot! Claws out!

And much like the kiss leader board on abc.com…my boyfriend and I have a few tallys of our own. 1) helicopters 2) the words “like” and “journey” and for this season 3) sean’s abs – OMGoodness Stacey you missed a very short clip of Sean in the Shower! Try to catch that on demand if you get the chance. How about the rest of you any interesting tallys? We gotta make this stuff even more interesting right?

  5. Laura Patton says:

We think alike! I agree with EVERYTHING you wrote! I really like Des. You could tell he was just crazy about her….he was like a little school boy around her. I think they would make the perfect couple! In my opinion, Tierra (sp?) seems SO fake. On the first episode, I thought she seemed so sweet right after she got out of the limo. Now, I’m beginning to feel that was all an act. I would like to see her go home.

  6. keri says:

not a spoiler but I read online that the ITM of Kacie after she was talking to the girl that left and it seemed like she was happy was actually a clip from Ben’s season. The article showed a clip from Ben’s season with her in the same outfit, hair ect.. Really sneeky way to make Kacie look bad :( The article was from a spoiler site so I won’t give you the link

  7. backchat says:

Stacey, you can always catch up on your Bach episode the next day on abc.go.com- they put the whole episode on there. I have to admit that we don’t have a DVR (shocking, I know) and I am also watching RHBH at 9 on Mondays, so I am flipping back and forth and catching the rest of the BACH on Tuesdays.

I do love everything about Sarah, except her voice. Can’t figure it out because it is only sometimes that it is like fingernails on a chalkboard to me. Maybe it is just her accent?

I liked the yoga gal and her Gibson girl hair. I loved that she “owned it” and it looked soft and sweet. Being a yoga instructor means she is likely very organic, natural, and down to earth. Probably not much of a catty bitchy type- I have a feeling that is why she felt out of her comfort zone. I guess I like women who are more themselves and not hiding behind tons of makeup and flat ironing their hair to look like everyone else. I liked that she was a bit different than the other girls.

I think that Desiree did sort of get back at Sean by being coy and long in answering his question of if she wanted the rose. They seemed to have a nice chemistry between them and she seems like a nice person.

I did not understand the Amanda gal and her attitude- she could at least be kind/friendly. To outright ignore someone is rude. You don’t have to be BFF’s but you do need to have some social skills. Didn’t you get that she was going to the FRC as the yellow rose of Texas just for Sean? Eww, that dress was screaming 80′s to me.

  8. Sallellen says:

I agree with backchat about Katie and Sarah. I liked Katie’s hair and I liked her. She was probably smart to leave. And Sarah’s voice! Aarrgghh! Part valley girl, part high school? It’s a huge turn-off. And don’t end your sentences with a question mark when it’s not warranted?
As for the Amanda debacle, I’d bet it’s the heavy hand of the Happy Editor who makes it look like she’s not responding to the other girls – that’s their modus operandi to bring the drama.

  9. Hillary says:

Sean seems like a genuinely nice guy. Love that he admitted dating and liking ethnic women. The frontrunner for me is Desiree ….she does resemble Katie Holmes and seems genuinely comfortable with Sean. Kacie’s hair looked terrible at rose ceremony, Amanda’s dress couldn’t have been more hideous and they all look past 35 with all the makeup. Kacie does seem desperate.
How much do they drink on a given date? Seems like a lot….
